During the International Customs Day (ICD), held on January 26, the Secretary-General, Dr Kunio Mikuriya of the WCO awarded the Ethiopian Electronic Single Window Project Office of the Ethiopian Customs Commission a Certificate of Merit in recognition for their contribution to the international Customs community through the implementation of the Ethiopian electronic single window.
The International Customs Day is held every January 26 to commemorate the inaugural session of the World Customs Organisation (WCO), which was held on this day in 1953. This year marks its 40th anniversary, and the WCO announced the 2022 theme of the International Customs Day as “Scaling up Customs Digital Transformation by Embracing a Data Culture and Building a Data Ecosystem”.
The Ethiopian Electronic Single Window, developed by CUPIA, was officially launched on January 4, 2020. After its successful introduction and greatly contributing to the national trade environment and economy, the Ethiopian Single Window is currently in its second phase of development and is expected to be completed soon. The second phase provides enhanced functions for stronger monitoring capabilities and integrated risk management for the regulatory agencies.
