Ecuador customs visits CUPIA – Strengthening cooperation expected

Luis Alberto Jaramillo, Director General of Ecuador Customs visits CUPIA in South Korea

From August 5 to 10, 2024, Luis Alberto Jaramillo, the Director General of the National Customs Service of Ecuador (Servicio Nacional de Aduana del Ecuador, SENAE), visited South Korea to discuss cooperation for the enhancement of Ecuador’s electronic customs system. During his visit, Director General Luis Alberto Jaramillo expressed his intention to swiftly advance the modernization of Ecuador’s electronic customs system, ECUAPASS.

In a meeting with Yoon-shik Kim, Chairman of CUPIA, the Director General emphasized that the system improvements are expected to have a significant impact not only on the economic development of Ecuador but also on combating corruption and improving public health.

The purpose of this visit was to achieve tangible changes that system users can experience, along with the migration of the existing system infrastructure. As such, Director General Jaramillo requested CUPIA’s active cooperation in enhancing ECUAPASS, citing the successful completion of past system development project.

CUPIA’s ECUAPASS Implementation Project

Scope: Development of a Customs Management System covering all aspects of customs administration and an Electronic Single Window connecting 29 institutions

Chairman Kim also expressed special affection for Ecuador, noting that it was the first client for CUPIA’s system implementation project. He stated, “CUPIA will provide all possible support in terms of infrastructure migration and risk management,” reaffirming his strong commitment to cooperation.

SENAE and CUPIA sign MOU for mutual cooperation

During the visit, Director General Jaramillo and Chairman Kim signed a memorandum of understanding for the support on the infrastructure migration. This cooperation between the two countries is expected to serve as an important foundation for the successful enhancement of Ecuador’s electronic customs system.
